Former President Donald Trump’s recent proposal for the United States to "take over" the Gaza Strip and lead its redevelopment has ignited significant controversy both domestically and internationally.
While there are MAGA supporters who are left scratching their heads wondering how this promotes “America First,” there are others who are hailing this as a brilliant negotiating tactic and an outside-the-box solution to the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
Announced during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump suggested that the U.S. could transform Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East," creating "thousands and thousands of jobs" and bringing pride to the entire region.
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said. “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs.”
It’s not clear if the Israeli Prime Minister was caught off-guard by the news or was part of some inside joke:
Trump’s proposal was quickly met with strong reactions from world leaders.
