President Joe Biden recently suggested that former President Donald Trump could learn a lesson from the late former President Jimmy Carter.
Jimmy Carter passed away on Sunday at age 100. He was the longest-living president.
When asked what Trump might take away from Carter’s example, Biden replied: “Decency. Decency. Decency.”
Here is a transcript of the eyebrow-raising exchange:
“Decency. Decency. Decency. Everybody deserves a shot. Everybody. Can you imagine Jimmy Carter walking by someone who needed something and just keep walking? Can you imagine Jimmy Carter referring to someone by the way they look or the way they talk? I can‘t. I can‘t. You know, I think the end of the deal here is that one of the reasons why we’re looked to by the rest of the world, for the bulk of our — our nationhood, we‘ve laid out what our values are. We said we believe. It‘s not just in the Declaration, ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident,’ but there‘s a feeling. The rest of the world looks to us, looks to us. And he was worth looking to.”
However, Biden’s lesson would carry greater weight if he could demonstrate the very qualities he champions. His presidency has frequently been marred by rhetoric and actions that starkly contrast with the ideals of decency he professes.
Joe Biden has a well-documented history of divisive and racially charged remarks. For instance, during his 2020 campaign, he infamously told Black voters, "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't Black."
Similarly, while warning about a Republican budget proposal, he claimed it would put Black Americans "back in chains."
Such comments not only demean, but exploit racial tensions for political gain.
Biden repeatedly spread falsehoods about his political opponents, most notably the widely debunked claim that Donald Trump referred to white supremacists as “very fine people” following the Charlottesville rally. This misrepresentation has been a source of significant division and mistrust among the American public.
Beyond his rhetoric, recent revelations have cast doubt on Biden’s honesty regarding his son Hunter Biden’s business dealings. For years, Biden emphatically denied any involvement or knowledge of his son's activities.
Yet, photographs released by the National Archives show Biden introducing Hunter to Chinese President Xi Jinping and several of his Chinese business associates, raising serious questions about the veracity of his public statements.
Biden has been a petty and vengeful president. His administration has been implicated in government-sponsored censorship, targeting dissenting voices that challenge Democratic Party orthodoxy.
This weaponization of power has extended to the Justice Department, which has pursued peaceful January 6 protesters with zeal, at times infringing upon their constitutional rights.
Moreover, Biden’s administration has repeatedly intervened in the political arena through the selective prosecution of his 2024 campaign opponent, Donald Trump. These actions have fueled concerns about the erosion of democratic norms and the abuse of federal institutions for political gain.
If there ever was a president in dire need of "decency," it is Joe Biden.
