Federal Authorities Probe Connections in Las Vegas and New Orleans Cases

President Joe Biden announced in a national address on New Year’s Day that law enforcement is investigating potential links between two suspected acts of terrorism: a New Year’s Day vehicular attack in New Orleans and an explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas.
“We’re tracking the explosion of a Cybertruck outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas,” Biden said. “Law enforcement and the intelligence community are investigating this as well, including whether there is any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans.”
The Las Vegas explosion outside the Trump Hotel carries obvious symbolic weight.
A Tesla Cybertruck—a product of Elon Musk’s company—was involved, linking two prominent figures in American politics and culture: Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
Activist Ron Filipowski remarked on X (formerly Twitter) about the allegorical nature of the event, calling it “a real photo and perfect metaphor heading into 2025.”
The vehicle, rented in Colorado and filled with fuel canisters and firework mortars, exploded after being parked near the hotel’s glass entrance. The explosion injured seven people, though all injuries were reported as minor.
